The "Digital Communicators" project was born due to the initiative of several Latin American and European universities that shared the same interest in teaching and studying digital communication. The ICOD Network was created in this context of interuniversity collaboration in 2003. The following universities and companies are members:
The project was presented by the
ICOD Network to the ALFA Programme of co-operation between the European Union and Latin America, in the frame of higher education and training in April 2003, and was passed in November 2003. The project is integrated into Subprogram A (Cooperation for Institutional Management).
The specific objectives of the project are:
To define competences related to the digital environment (technical, theoretical and analytical) that a communication graduate must have.
To design possible university training paths (theoretical subjects, production workshops, etc.) in the digital communication field.
To analyse the transition from teaching inspired by old mass media to a new practice that incorporates new media.
To discuss pedagogical methodologies in order to improve teaching digital competences in communication degrees both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (continuous training).
To exchange university and business experiences in order to improve training of future digital communication professionals.
In order to achieve the objectives of the project, the ICOD Network programmed a series of studies and meetings whose conclusions were displayed in several documents.
